ABC's "Good Morning America" played brief clips of Charlie Gibson's interview with Obama. Asked about his relative youth and inexperience, Obama said "people are going to have more questions, and I think that's perfectly appropriate." Stressed importance of preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Full interview with Obama, and interview with McCain, to air on Wednesday's "World News."
Also on "GMA," columnist Tom Friedman said Obama will come back "a little wiser, a little smarter" from his trip, but is not earning "a master's degree in Middle Eastern studies." Said McCain was right about the surge, but the important decisions in Iraq have moved beyond that.
CBS' "Early Show" played more of its interview with Obama. He said "perfect peace eludes us all here on Earth," and said he has been right about Afghanistan's centrality in the war on terror despite never having visited.
Also on CBS, Gov. Jindal said McCain will not offer him the vice presidency, and he has not confirmed McCain is visiting Louisiana this week. Criticized Obama for not acknowledging the surge has been successful.
NBC's "Today" recapped Obama's visit to Israel, including his meetings with all political factions and his comment that the country is "a miracle."
On "Fox and Friends," Gov. Jindal said McCain has not spoken with him about the vice presidency, repeated that he already has the job he wants. Said given that Obama has changed his position on campaign finance and other issues, he should change his position on the surge as well.
On Fox, Bob Novak said he was always suspicious of the claim that McCain would choose a running mate this week. Asked if he was used by the campaign, laughed and said "it sounds like it, doesn't it." Said some in the McCain camp still want to announce a running mate before Obama.
Also called Obama's trip "terrific."
Gen. Wesley Clark on MSNBC said he agrees with Obama that the president should not take orders from military commanders as he has "broader responsibilities." Also said the surge was a good idea, but now "it's not about troops, it's about politics."
