[audio http://markhalperin.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/sununu-goes-postal.mp3%5DIn a Tuesday morning Romney campaign media conference call, the always quotable former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu hit the President hard on political cronyism — and talked taxes, Bain, jobs, campaign ads and more.
Listen to the call above.
Here are some choice quotes:
On creating jobs: “I wish this President would learn how to be an American.”
Clarifying his earlier statement on creating jobs: “The President has to learn the American formula for creating business.”
On tax returns: “I think the Governor has made the right decision releasing two…. This is just a distraction…. If he releases 12, they’re going to ask for 20.”
On the Obama campaign’s tactics and campaign ads: “Clearly and unequivocally a bunch of liars.”
Earlier Sununu said this on Fox:
“He has no idea how the American system functions, and we shouldn’t be surprised about that, because he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something, spent the next set of years in Indonesia, another set of years in Indonesia, and, frankly, when he came to the U.S., he worked as a community organizer, which is a socialized structure, and then got into politics in Chicago.”
OFA spox Lis Smith is already out with a response:
“The Romney campaign has officially gone off the deep end. The question is what else they’ll pull to avoid answering serious questions about Romney’s tenure at Bain Capital and investments in foreign tax havens and offshore accounts. This meltdown and over-the-top rhetoric won’t make things better- it only calls attention to how desperate they are to change the conversation.”
UPDATE: Sununu apologizes for his remarks on CNN:
“Frankly, I made a mistake. I shouldn’t have used those words. And I apologize for using those words.”
