Meet the Press: McCain
Fox News Sunday: Karl Rove moved Indiana from "toss-up" to likely Obama state, said McCain faces "a steep uphill climb" to victory. Urged him to advance two messages-- that he's right and Obama is wrong, and he is experienced and Obama is not. Said internal McCain feuding is "a sad sight to see" and a sign of "undisciplined" people without loyalty to their candidate. Said Palin is "more a plus than a minus," though acknowledged "there are mistakes" as she's "a first-time candidate." Said Biden has been "a gaffe a day" without critical media coverage.
Gov. Kaine said he sees three good signs for Obama in Virginia: a polling lead, a better organization, and more energy. Said Obama has "a lot" more offices in Virginia than he did when he ran for governor. Said only "a tiny portion" of voters will make their choice based on race.
Face the Nation: Gov. Rendell said Obama still must campaign in Pennsylvania, and complacency is a hazard. Said McCain's recent criticism of President Bush is "borne out of desperation." Gov. Pawlenty said no one should count McCain out, warned of Obama pulling up to the White House in January with a U-Haul truck "full of bad ideas."
This Week: Sen. Graham and Rep. Emanuel ably hit their candidates' talking points, with Graham still promoting Lieberman as McCain's running mate, although also touting Palin's reform credentials. Also, former GE CEO Jack Welch.
Late Edition: Sens. Bayh, Kyl; Reps. Wasserman-Schultz, Heather Wilson
