Pool Report: Quotes from Obama's Balkenende Meeting

Here's some more from meeting with Balkenende:

Quote from POTUS on his mindset on the mound in 2005: "I just wanted to keep it high. Now, there was no clock on it, I don't know how fast it went. If it exceeded 30 miles per hour, I'd be surprised. But it did clear the plate."

When asked about unemployment in states like Michigan, POTUS said he has "seen some stabilization in the credit markets, and that's good."

He noted though that "hiring typically lags for some time after that, that has been the historic norm."

Said his guess is that unemployment "will continue to tick up for several months." Important thing is to make sure it is not a "jobless recovery" like last recession.

"Now, this has been a more severe recession than we've seen since the Great Depression. So how employment numbers are going to respond is not yet clear."

In introductory remarks, POTUS noted the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson "exploring Manhattan" on behalf of a Dutch company is almost upon us.

"That's going to be an incredible celebration that we're all looking forward to."

Personally invited PM Balkenende to G20 in Pittsburgh in September.

Noted the "critical role" Dutch have played in Afghanistan.

"The Dutch military has been one of the most outstanding militaries there."

Said the two men also discussed climate change in addition to "a range of international issues."

In Balkenende's opening remarks he said to POTUS: "When you started as president, you brought the message of hope and hope for a new future, and we admire you for that."
