Pool Report of Obama, Pelosi Meeting

Print Pool Report #2
Jan. 5, 2009

At 11 a.m. ET, President-elect Obama met with Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Seated in arm chairs by a fireplace, the two spoke to reporters briefly before beginning their private meeting.

The remarks began before the print pool was admitted, but here is a rough log from TV pooler Jamie Farnsworth:

Obama: Reason we are here today is because ppl can't wait. Expecting sobering job report. Speaker and staff have been great. I can't think of a better partner than pelosi.

Pelosi: honor and priv to welcome you to office. Hit the ground running. Two weeks from tomorrow inaugurate. Construction underway now. By that time we hope to sign into law.

A verbatim transcript will follow.

Pelosi and Obama declined to take questions before reporters were ushered out, but PEBO said he would have an availability later in the day.
