On Tuesday's Morning Shows

Morning shows led with Tropical Storm Dolly, followed by politics.
"NBC's Today" recapped Obama's "picture-perfect" trip to Iraq, said he and Petraeus "agreed to disagree" about a withdrawal timeline in an "animated" conversation. On the veep front, said a McCain selection is unlikely to be "imminent," and could come after the Democratic convention.
Also on "Today," Giuliani said he is not and does not want to be on McCain's "short list." Said he does not understand how Obama could still oppose the surge, suggests his opposition is due to political "stubbornness."
On ABC's "Good Morning America," report said Obama saw firsthand the success of the surge he opposed. Stephanopoulos said the trip has been "better than they could have imagined," especially the "gift" of Maliki's seeming support for his withdrawal plan. On McCain, said a veep choice this week is "conceivable, but not likely," and said he is told the eventual selection will be a bold choice to "scramble the jets."
On CBS' "Early Show," Couric said Obama's trip has been "very, very productive." Said she plans to press him on why he still opposes the surge despite evidence it has been "extremely effective" in their interview Tuesday evening.
On MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Mark Halperin said Obama's trip has been "executed really well" and is reaching voters, through images and the tone of press coverage. Said Obama's continued opposition to the surge could be a vulnerability, sure to be addressed at Tuesday's press conference. Said the natural time for McCain to choose a running mate is after the Democratic convention, and Romney would be a logical choice.
On MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Giuliani said he does not believe McCain will choose a VP this week. Insisted there is "a big difference" between a timetable and a "time horizon" for withdrawal from Iraq.
On "Joe," Gov. Rendell said he's not being vetted as a VP choice, suggested Obama choose someone with foreign policy experience. Said the surge was not fully successful, as issues over infrastructure, oil revenue etc. have not been resolved.
On CNN's "American Morning," Gov. Richardson defended Obama's skepticism toward the surge, saying it did not bring political success and Iraq is still not "in terribly good shape." Said foreign audiences see Obama as "a new, fresh hope" and McCain is "really jealous" of that attention.
On "Fox and Friends," Richardson said McCain is "whining" about having his op-ed draft turned down by the NY Times, and many of his were rejected when he was running for president.
On CNN, Giuliani highlighted the fact it's Obama's first ever trip to Germany. Also said a public withdrawal timetable from Iraq is "dangerous" and "totally irresponsible." Said the NY Times practiced "censorship" against McCain, as the paper wanted to control the content of his op-ed.
