Obama Departure Pool Report
POTUS Departure for Camp David
July 3, 2009
Motorcade departed the White House at 9:47, about two minutes behind
schedule.
We passed a good number of early-rising tourists amassed on downtown
street corners, getting a head start on the weekend celebration. Most
watched silently or took pictures. One man in a red Darrell Green jersey
(#28) gave a big wave right as we passed the Washington Monument.
At 9:53 we pulled through the gates and onto the Fort McNair campus.
Pool parked far away from takeoff spot on a large parade ground, and had
to run to see POTUS from a distance. He walked slowly to Marine One,
wearing khaki slacks and a blue golf shirt. Reggie Love followed
carrying assorted clothes and gear.
A group of others, all dressed casually in shorts and t-shirts, boarded
as well. They included POTUS' mother in law, Marian Robinson, as well as
friend of family Kaye Wilson, and Marty Nesbitt and his two sons.
At 10:01 Marine One lifted off, and POTUS was off for Camp David.
