Morning Show Summary for October 8

Sen. Biden hit all three network morning shows.

On NBC's "Today": Downplayed McCain's $300 billion mortgage proposal, saying the Treasury Secretary already has that power under the rescue package. Said he doesn't read much into McCain avoiding eye contact with Obama or calling him "that one," as that's "part of his style" when he's on the attack. Said McCain should have condemned some of the off-color things said by supporters recently. Laughed at "SNL" clip, saying "those guys are incredible."

On ABC's "Good Morning America": Biden repeated that Sec. Paulson already has the power to buy up mortgages, but sidestepped question on whether he should do so, saying it's "a judgment he's going to have to make." Also said McCain avoids eye contact, etc. during debates because he's "ill at ease with the attack he has underway." Said Palin "goes too far" with her attacks on the stump and she should criticize off-color comments by supporters if she hears them: "I thought we were beyond this place." Laughed heartily at his "SNL" counterpart, said "I wish I had that much hair."

On CBS' "Early Show": Said McCain campaign attack on Obama for the Ayers link "is just malarkey. Flat malarkey." "...These guys are once again injecting fear and loathing into this campaign." Also condemned "incitements," like McCain supporter recently using Obama's middle name. "This is over the top."

Also on ABC, Stephanopoulos said McCain did not change the momentum of the race Tuesday, while Obama "helped himself a lot." Said being seen as "the safe choice" is "a significant advance" for Obama, and McCain's "back is really up against the wall" now.

On "Fox and Friends" McCain aide Wallace appeared to ease off the Ayers attack line, saying they've raised the issue only because Obama allegedly misrepresented the extent of their relationship. Whether the relationship itself is a problem "is between Barack Obama and the voters." Said Obama "no doubt has very gifted rhetorical abilities." Called his claims about his tax plan "insanity."

On MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Wallace and Obama adviser Gibbs sparred over the debate and their candidates' tax policies.

Also on MSNBC, Florida Gov. Crist.
