Fox News Sunday: Richardson responded to Carville comparing him to Judas saying he wasn’t going to “get in the gutter like that,” but it’s “typical” of many people around Clinton. Said they think they have an “entitlement” to the presidency, but it shouldn’t be Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton. “What about the rest of us?” Also agreed that B. Clinton wasn’t implying Obama was unpatriotic with Friday comments. Watch clip above.
Ed Rendell denounced Carville comments, kept pressure on Richardson to explain Obama’s electability in November. Conceded it’s “difficult” for Clinton to catch up in popular vote, elected delegates, she won’t win Pennsylvania by 17 points like polls show, but will win majority. Also supported claims of Obama camp going negative saying they are trying to “have it both ways.” “If they want to tone it down, don’t accuse someone of McCarthyism.”
This Week: Sens. Schumer and Kyl talked economics. Kyl defended McCain on his economic credentials, while Schumer brought up economic success of B. Clinton presidency.
Sen. Hagel discussed his book, addressed his statements on a new political party saying he wasn’t calling for one, but highlighting that we are “living through a historic re-orientation of politics,” pointed to Dem candidates. When asked why he never endorsed McCain said it’s because of differences on the war and when he endorses he wants to be behind that person 100%, but said he’s behind him as nominee, wouldn’t vote for Clinton or Obama.
Face the Nation: Sen. Graham said if Obama or Clinton pull troops out it would be a “complete disaster.” Predicted that “arbitrary withdrawal” would “freeze political progress” and U.S. would have to go back and fight a bigger war in Iraq. On possible Veep, said McCain is getting a committee together to decide that, denied he’s interested.
Sen. Reed fought back on the war saying “every time you turn a corner there’s another corner,” said war is draining economy. Said he hasn’t been approached to be anyone’s Veep, doesn’t want the job.
Late Edition: Oregon Sen. Wyden maintained that he would be neutral in Democratic race, mostly because of his health care efforts, doesn’t want his choice to conflict with progress of that. Pennsylvania Sen. Specter said passport breach is “despicable” and wants an “intense investigation.”
Indiana Sen. Bayh backed up his candidate Clinton, said he doesn’t think Richardson endorsement will have much impact in his state, endorsements more “background noise.” Gov. Napolitano said Clinton’s “wrong” about Florida, Michigan and situation “is regrettable” but can’t change the rules in the middle of the game.
