McCain Camp Response to Obama's Statement on Iraq

Please see our campaign's response to Senator Barack Obama's revealing remarks aboard his campaign plane today. Senator Obama said that he was puzzled by the frenzy that resulted from the appearance that his position on immediate withdrawal from Iraq could be “refined” or softened:

“We are all absolutely committed to ending this war, but on Thursday Barack Obama's words indicated that he also shared John McCain's commitment to securing the peace beforehand. What's really puzzling is that Barack Obama still doesn't understand that his words matter.”--- Tucker Bounds, spokesman John McCain 2008

Barack Obama ‘Puzzled' By News Coverage. “‘I was a little puzzled by the frenzy that I set off by what I thought was a pretty innocuous statement," the expected Democratic presidential nominee told reporters flying with him to Missouri from Montana. "I am absolutely committed to ending the war.'” (Jennifer Loven, “Obama: Response to Iraq Remarks Overblown,” The Associated Press,  7/5/08)
