McCain Camp Response to "Changing World" Ad

From the McCain campaign:

Please see our campaign's response to Barack Obama's ‘Changing World' television ad that his campaign launched today:

“Is Barack Obama incapable of running an ad that's consistent with his record?  During his presidential run, Barack Obama has arrogantly insulted America's allies around the world, most recently saying ‘the Karzai government has not gotten out of the bunker'.  You cannot ‘rebuild alliances' if you're only interested in advancing your own political interests.” --- Tucker Bounds, spokesman John McCain 2008

MYTH: Obama's Ad Says He Will Rebuild Alliances To Take Out Terrorist Networks:

Announcer: “As president, he'll rebuild our alliances to take out terrorist networks.” (Obama For America Website, www.barackobama.com, Accessed 7/16/08)

FACT: Obama Has Been Criticized By Leaders Of Nations That Are Important Allies In The War On Terror And Insulted The President Of Afghanistan:

Obama Said The Karzai Government “Has Not Gotten Out Of The Bunker” In Afghanistan. “I think the Karzai government has not gotten out of the bunker and helped organize Afghanistan and government, the judiciary, police forces, in ways that would give people confidence.” (CNN's “GPS With Fareed Zakaria,” 7/13/08)

British Foreign Minister David Miliband Criticized Obama's Policies On Iran. “David Miliband has raised questions over Barack Obama's policy on Iran, which officials in Washington and Europe fear threatens to undermine the tough stance adopted by the west towards Tehran over recent years.” (Tom Baldwin and Richard Beeston, “Miliband Questions Proposal To Talk With Iran,” The Times [London], 5/24/08)

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas Criticized Obama For His Comments On Jerusalem. “Obama's statement, made during a speech Wednesday to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a pro-Israel lobbying group, drew a swift rebuke from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. ‘This statement is totally rejected,' Abbas told reporters in the West Bank city of Ramallah. ‘The whole world knows that holy Jerusalem was occupied in 1967, and we will not accept a Palestinian state without having Jerusalem as the capital of a Palestinian state.'” (Glenn Kessler, “Obama Backs Away From Comment On Divided Jerusalem,” The Washington Post, 6/6/08)

Pakistani Leaders Criticized Obama For Threatening To Take Unilateral Action Against Terrorists In Pakistan. “Meanwhile, because communication is indeed global and instantaneous, Musharraf's Foreign Office put out a statement after the president's meeting with the new U.S. ambassador to Pakistan, Anne W. Paterson. ‘The president pointed out that recent U.S. statements were counterproductive to the close cooperation and coordination between the two countries in combatting [sic] the threat of terrorism,' it noted.” (Editorial, “Dems Debate Gets Pakistan Rebuttal,” The Boston Herald, 8/9/07)

Pakistan's Foreign Minister: “It's a very irresponsible statement, that's all I can say… as the election campaign in America is heating up we would not like American candidates to fight their elections and contest elections at our expense.” (Mike Dorning, “Obama Remark Angers Pakistan,” Chicago Tribune, 8/4/07)

Former Australian Prime Minister John Howard Criticized Obama For His Comments On Iraq. “Australia's conservative Prime Minister slammed Barack Obama … over his opposition to the Iraq war …” (Meraiah Foley, “Australian Leader Slams US Presidential Candidate For Iraq Policy,” The Associated Press, 2/11/07)

“Obama … Told Reporters … He's Flattered That One Of Bush's Allies ‘Started Attacking Me The Day After I Announced (His Presidential Run) – I Take That As A Compliment.'” (“Obama Hits Back After Australian PM Slams His Iraq Stance,” CNN, 2/11/07)

“The Democratic Presidential Hopeful Said If The Australian Prime Minister Was ‘Ginned Up To Fight The Good Fight In Iraq,' He Needs To Send Another 20,000 Australians To The War.” (“Obama Hits Back After Australian PM Slams His Iraq Stance,” CNN, 2/11/07)
