Local Pool Report of Clinton-Obama Joint Fundraiser
TIME: 10pm ET
EVENT: Obama Fundraiser at Loews Regency Hotel
No news, just hugs and handpounds at tonight's private fundraiser.
Actually, there were no handpounds but you get the idea. Allan
Patricof was there as was Vernon Jordan. Jesse Jackson was not
there. The event started at about 9 pm, Clinton and Obama spoke for
about 10 minutes before mingling with the crowd. The pool was
escorted out as mingling began....
During their remarks, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton once again made
the call for unity, with Clinton introducing Obama and telling her
supporters that they have more in common with him than John McCain.
"Our coming together tonight sends a very clear message that we are
united and that we come together with a commitment to this election
that is going to consume us between now and novemeber, " she said at
the event attended by about 125 donors at the Loew's Regency. "It is
going to take every single one of us to put in nplace what we need to
be able to win, this is a very good start."
"Anybody who voted for me has much more in common with Barack than you
do with our Republican opponent and that has to be the argument that
we make," she said, at which point everyone clapped.
Obama hugged Clinton and kissed her on the cheek and praised her a
woman who "embodies the very best in American service" and "left a
bunch of lumps on my head in the debates."He said that Democrats had
the chance this time to expand the electoral map and rattled off
states where he is leading, or close, like Georgia , Nevada and New
Mexico.
"We created this army out there and people are excited in states that
Democrats haven't won since Lyndon Johnson," he said. "We have a
chance to win."
Acknowledging how important Hillary Clinton will be in the bringing
the Democratic party together he said, "with half a wing this bird
can't fly."
