Former IA Gov. Tom Vilsack on CNN Friday
Anchor: And Governor you made a comment in a TV interview that's created
quite a stir and raised some eyebrows recently. As you said before, you said
there's no question she was the face of the administration in foreign
affairs, talking about Senator Clinton. Richardson's folks shot back
immediately, this from Tom Reynolds his spokesperson, saying Governor
Vilsack's enthusiasm for his candidate has clouded his judgment. We take
some exception to this opinion. I also think Madeleine Albright might
disagree, too. You want to clarify your comment?
TV: I'm not sure Madeline Albright would necessarily disagree. I will tell
you what my source is Bill Clinton, the President of the United States who
suggested, and has and has on many occasions in Iowa that during the first
term because he was busy in Bosnia and other areas, he sent Senator Clinton
out as his representative, as the country's representative. She's been to 82
countries, she knows world leaders, there's no question about the fact she
was an integral player and significant player in the first administration.
That's one of the experiences she brings to the table that's unique and
different about her from the rest of the candidates.
Anchor: So you're saying Bill Clinton signed off on that evaluation, she's
the face of the foreign affairs?
Vilsack: He has suggested that on numerous occasions, that he sent her around the
world. She visited 82 countries, knows world leaders and is ready on day one
to begin repairing the relationships that have been damaged so tremendously
during the Bush administration.
