Sunday Show Shogun

11:42 a.m. E.T.

Mitch McConnell danced from program to program in full Mr Wily mode. He wanted to drive one message (cut…spending…now) and pretty much refused to engage on any other topic in any way that might involve the committing of big-time n-e-w-s.

Gun control? Whatever. (Although he DID suggest the need to cut…spending….now would make dealing with most any other legislative matter of significance for the next three months impossible.) Chuck Hagel? Whatever. (Although he certainly could not have warmed the hearts of Hagel backers with his tone).

If John Boehner sticks with his refusal to negotiate mano-a-mano with the President, McConnell is going to be the man to see for much of 2013. He’d have a stronger hand to play if he could drive more news on TV, but, as we say in Kentucky, it is what it is.
