Given Donald Trump’s prominent role in the Romney campaign and his closeness to the Romneys, it seemed natural to assume he would get a marquee speaking role at the Republican convention.
But a recent Politico report suggested the businessman might skip the quadrennial party confab.
But now comes this invitation from the Sarasota Republican Party, announcing that Mr. Trump will appear there on Sunday, August 26 to accept the group’s Statesman of the Year award.
It seems a safe bet that if Trump is in Sarasota the day before the GOP convention starts, he will find his way to Tampa to play a role.
Sources point out that no speaking invitations have gone out yet. Trump adviser Michael Cohen tells me there is no decision on their end but says Mr. Trump is fully supportive of Romney and, as always, much in demand.
My betting remains: Trump will be there.
