I guess I understand why Romney felt compelled to say he is vetting Marco Rubio for VP, but the disclosure pulls a thread on the sweater that he might end up regretting tugging at. Not a big deal either way, but a real deviation from the secrecy and integrity of the process.

It is possible that Romney’s statement is meant to keep alive the notion that Rubio is under consideration (for obvious reasons), but that they have simply done a lot of Google searches, rather than a full vet (with documents and a questionnaire handed over by Rubio).
