Bain Card

This is a key moment in the campaign. Obama's team has put on camera some workers who lost their jobs while Bain made money. This was inevitable. The questions now are (1) how and when does the Romney campaign react publicly? (2) how many news cycles does this ad drive? (3) does the Romney campaign go after the workers in the spot? (4) how do other Republicans react to the ad? (5) does Romney's Super PAC come to his rescue? Team Romney has a lot of decisions to make, including whether to take on the facts of the steel mill in question, or try to move to safer terrain. Pay attention: if Obama-Romney is 50% about whether the former can disqualify the latter as a credible president (and it is), this is a first, critical test of both sides.

Chicago goes up with new spot in CO, IA, OH, PA and VA showcasing ex-steel workers who lost their jobs when Bain shuttered their Kansas City mill.

Script: “Bain Capital made at least $12 million on GS Industries before it declared bankruptcy and sough elimination of the pension plan, health and life insurance.”

Size of ad buy unknown; intended in part to draw earned media coverage.
