NY Times: “President Obama’s endorsement of gay marriage on Wednesday was by any measure a watershed. A sitting United States president took sides in what many people consider the last civil rights movement, providing the most powerful evidence to date of how rapidly views are moving on an issue that was politically toxic just five years ago.”

AP: “On the fence no longer, President Barack Obama declared his unequivocal support for gay marriage on Wednesday, a historic announcement that gave the polarizing social issue a more prominent role in the 2012 race for the White House.”

Washington Post: “President Obama endorsed same-sex marriage on Wednesday, capping days of frenzied speculation about his views and intensifying pressure from gay campaign donors that began with a surprising endorsement of marriage over the weekend by Vice President Biden.”
