Lugar Loses

US Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN)

Indiana incumbent defeated by Tea Party-backed two-term state treasurer Mourdock in GOP Senate primary.

Mourdock 60.6%
Lugar 39.4%

Lugar: “If Mr. Mourdock is elected, I want him to be a good Senator. But that will require him to revise his stated goal of bringing more partisanship to Washington.”

Mourdock: “I know what it’s like to lose. It’s not fun. And especially after he’s given that 36 years in the Senate. I know he has to feel terrible tonight and I truly feel badly for him.”
