Reaction From the Left

Kaine: “The White House has taken further steps to ensure that all women have access to affordable contraception and to ensure that religious organizations will not be asked to violate their beliefs in the process.”

Larson: “It’s clear that the President listened to the concerns of religious organizations, like Catholic Health Services, and took them seriously.”

Dionne: “President Obama…honored the fact that religious groups, including the Catholic Church, had legitimate religious liberty claims in the battle over a contraception mandate under the new health care law. And he did so while still holding to his commitment to expanding contraception coverage as broadly as possible.”

Emily’s List: “It’s outrageous and disheartening that this important step forward for women became a target of the far-right — and a tool for desperate candidates, like Mitt Romney, trying to rally the most conservative primary voters to their side.”
