South Carolina victor gives long, fiery version of his mind-tour stumper, along with unusual praise of rivals, and Bam slams.
Newt: "It’s not that I am a good debater. It’s that I articulate the deepest-felt values of the American people."
Calls Obama historically vulnerable: "President Obama is a president so weak that he makes Jimmy Carter look strong."
Halperin's Take
Newt's tone was well balanced between fiery and calm. Praising the other candidates was really smart. He was optimistic and anti-Obama at the same time. Did a good job incorporating some of his best stump speech lines, including hitting elites and anti-religious "bigots." It has been true for at least a week or so that Gingrich is giving better speeches than Romney. Saturday night, Newt gave not only a better speech overall but one more in tune with the views and spirit of Florida Republican primary voters than Romney's.
