Payroll tax cut extension tops PressSec’s agenda at the WH.

Reiterates support for passing CR “if more time is needed” to finalize the omnibus.

This late in the game, Carney says “the issue is not how it gets paid for” but refuses to “to negotiate a hypothetical” from the briefing room.

Carney says it’s “unacceptable to hike taxes on 160 million Americans” but optimistic both the payroll tax and omnibus can get done.

PressSec: “There’s no reason to talk about a shut down.”

Carney rejects Wyden-Ryan plan: “The widened Ryan proposal is the wrong way to reform Medicare.”

ON POTUS’s vacation plans: “The President has made clear on earlier occasions that he will stay here as long as it takes to make sure that Congress does not leave town without extending the payroll tax cut.”
