Mitt to World: I’m Not Responsible

Here we go. This is a quadrennial ritual, in which the media attempts to have candidates take responsibility for — or denounce — negative campaigning done on hopefuls' behalf. Romney slipped the verbal noose in Cedar Rapids but if his allies continue to go after the Georgian, these questions will come up again. Gingrich has so far turned the other cheek but he's unlikely to buy Romney's "I don't write the scripts" defense.

In Cedar Rapids press availability, Bay Stater suggests he has no ability to control, endorse or repudiate anti-Gingrich moves by his official surrogates or Mitt-cash-backing Super PACs.

Romney: “I can’t write scripts for Governor Sununu or anybody else. I can tell you that the people who have have worked with…Speaker Gingrich have their own views and they’ll express those views.”
