Wins kudos from Grover Norquist and Club for Growth.

On CNBC, Norquist: “Twenty percent is a very good place to be and what Perry – Gov. Perry – does right is he sets up an alternative structure.”

In response to speech, Obama campaign lumps Perry in with Romney: “Governor Perry and Governor Romney’s tax plans are guided by the same principle: they would shift a greater share of taxes away from large corporations and the wealthiest onto the backs of the middle class.”

Bachmann tweets: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; thank you Governor Perry for using my ideas for your tax plan.”

Huntsman: “Unlike my plan to clean out the tax code entirely, Governor Perry takes the easy way out by leaving in place a broken system.”

Huntsman: Perry’s Plan Doesn’t Fix Broken Tax System

Manchester, NH – Gov. Jon Huntsman released the following statement responding to Gov. Rick Perry’s tax plan:

“Unlike my plan to clean out the tax code entirely, Governor Perry takes the easy way out by leaving in place a broken system.  Because his plan is optional it will maintain our outdated system of deductions and credits.  I have offered a pro-growth plan that will actually reform our tax code for the 21st Century by eliminating loopholes, deductions, and corporate welfare entirely.”

The next phase for Perry’s plan involves reaction from the Wall Street Journal editorial page, columnists and Republican politicians. The Romney campaign apparently will hold its fire but there are sure to be many attacks coming from Boston if Austin starts to gain any traction whatsoever. While the flat tax has gotten the bulk of the attention so far, there are other targets of political opportunity elsewhere in Perry’s plan.
