In AP-GFK poll, half of Americans say they do not think the President deserves to be re-elected.
And/but Obama leads potential GOP challengers in head-to-head match-ups.
Obama 48 — Romney 45
Obama 49 — Cain 43
Obama 51 — Perry 42
Poll conducted Oct. 13-17, 2011. Margin of error 4 points.
Given the state of the economy, it is remarkable how well the President's poll numbers are holding up. Previous troubled incumbents, such as Bill Clinton, were way down in hypothetical match-ups around this time in their first terms. As has been said before, Obama has a ceiling, but his floor is more politically important at this point.
