Perry's bad debate performances clearly have played a role in his polling decline. But his aides continue to believe he can comeback and win, even with relatively weak showings in debates. Strong organizing, grassroots campaigning, fundraising and TV ads are all worth a lot more than debates. But the filter of the Chattering Class is unforgiving and impacts those other areas to at least some extent.
