Newspaper Takes from the Hanover Debate

NY Times: “Former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and Gov. Rick Perry of Texas offered sharply contrasting styles of leadership Tuesday night as they and the other candidates seeking the Republican presidential nomination debated how best to revive the ailing economy.”

Politico: “The Republican presidential candidates found their target for the evening: Herman Cain and his “9-9-9” tax plan.”

Washington Post: “The government is the problem. That was the message Tuesday night as the eight Republican presidential hopefuls clamored to blame Washington for the nation’s economic ills.”

WSJ:  “A Republican candidates’ debate that showcased the shifting fortunes of the campaign.”

Boston Globe: “If previous debates were like a boxing match, with candidates throwing haymakers at one another, the debate last night was more like a late-night poker game, with candidates sitting around a table and giving each other a light ribbing.”
