In interview for Erin Burnett OutFront premier, DefenseSec says citzenship doesn’t matter, Al-Awlaki “clearly a terrorist” and US had “the authority and the ability to go after” him.
Burnett: And I’m curious there’s been discussion of the ACLU saying he’s an American citizen, so perhaps the fact that it was a CIA drone which killed him was possibly illegal because he didn’t have trial and he’s an American citizen. Are you confident that you’re clear legally here?
Panetta: This individual was clearly a terrorist and yes he was a citizen, but if you’re a terrorist, you’re a terrorist. That means that we have the ability to go after those who would threaten to attack the United States and kill Americans. There’s no question that the authority and the ability to go after a terrorist is there.
