It has been a long time since a Republican presidential candidate has made California genuinely competitive in the general election. One of the things Barack Obama did that was smart in 2008 was use his nomination fight time in states to lay some groundwork for November. Let's see if either Perry or Romney does that this week when they are in the state for the debate.
