Obama addresses S&P downgrade, market drops and Afghanistan losses in Monday remarks.
Highlights:
Plans to release his own recommendations to the Super Committee.
Hopes Friday news will offer "a renewed sense of urgency."
Regardless of downgrade, Obama says U.S. has "always been and will be a AAA country."
Problems "imminently solvable," but can't be solved now because of lack of "political will."
Halperin's Take
Well-reasoned, uplifting rhetoric, but no new plan or new news. And the afternoon Dow drop was no help either. The country needs to turn around confidence before it can turn around the economy. The White House clearly thinks pushing back against S&P is essential, but that isn't necessarily the right battle going forward now.
