America Deserves A Leader

Two nights ago, with our nation one week away from default, President Obama and Speaker Boehner addressed the nation on the debt ceiling. Speaker Boehner's plan includes spending cuts equal to the amount of the debt ceiling increase. It does not increase taxes and takes real steps toward moving forward with a balanced budget amendment.

I support Speaker Boehner's approach and am the only candidate willing to do so. Forcing Washington politicians to balance the federal budget is critical and the Speaker's plan will do just that. Just six days away from default, the President has threatened to veto it.

The real problem continues to be that the President is not leading. To date, he has offered no concrete proposal of his own, and instead seems to be playing a political game with an issue that has serious consequences for our nation. He seems unwavering in his determination to increase taxes on American business owners, which would further weaken our economic recovery.

The American people deserve better. The American people deserve a LEADER.

As Governor of Utah, I expanded our job base. In fact, during my tenure, our state led the nation in job creation. And I know for certain that part of that success was driven by our decision to cut taxes at historic levels, rather than raise the burden on job creators of our great state.

Americans are outraged at the prospect that following our current economic trends, we will hand off to our children a country that is less good, less competitive and less hopeful than the country our generation received. We can and must do better.
