Speaker Tells His Friends

Boehner Facebook post plays down the grand bargain — plays up cut/cap/balance.

“Media accounts are speculating about a ‘deal’ between Republicans and the White House that does not exist.  What does exist is the Cut, Cap, & Balance Act, approved by the House with bipartisan support and the support of the American people.  The Senate should do its job, listen to the people, and pass it today.”

Boehner, like Obama, focuses on the art of the possible, over the media-driven "perils of Pauline" dynamic that makes ANY deal seem impossible. And despite some fresh speculation about the 2012-geared political motives of some of the key players, the Speaker and the President are trying to get a deal they think is good and right for the country. Obama is willing to take political risks to make that happen. The biggest question in the debt talks is, can Boehner get Cantor to agree with him to take the same type of risk?
