Thursday Briefing

Debt negotiations top the agenda in Carney’s session with reporters.

In debt negotiations “We have not ruled anything out as an issue to talk about.”

In today’s talks there were no breakthroughs but “there was a very constructive atmosphere.”

On Bachmann saying she will not vote to raise the debt ceiling: “There may be other members who feel that way. We obviously disagree strongly.”

“This is a situation where nothing is agreed upon until everything is agreed upon…It will not come together until the very end.”

No single plan is going to be the plan that emerges as the final product. “The President has made clear that he accepts the responsibility and the need to compromise and that he won’t get everything he wants.”
