Auto recovery, Obama’s meeting with House GOP top the agenda in Carney’s session with reporters.

On Obama’s meeting with House GOP:

Meeting lasted about 75 minutes.

President said gathering was “productive,” agrees with Boehner’s statement that future meetings are needed.

Next round of meetings with Biden slated to take place June 9.

This was not forum for “specific advances” in negotiations, as conducted by Biden.

“Obviously, there are long-term disagreements” on deficit/debt problems. But “there is common ground” and Obama believes “that a compromise can be achieved.”

Discussion was “frank” but not “confrontational.”
