On “Morning Joe,” Mark Halperin says administration’s “mistakes on key facts” have created “unnecessary questions” about a “controversial” operation.
It doesn’t diminish the bravery and the careful planning that went in for us to ask questions on behalf of the public. Governments during times of war often don’t tell the truth, and it’s incumbent among us … to ask hard questions. And the White House has done an admirable job of trying to put out information but making mistakes on key facts, I think, is a big problem. Because it does create a diversion. It raises questions about the operation.
There’s controversy about going in and killing somebody. There just is. Even Osama bin Laden. And handling it the way they have and making the mistakes they have has created un necessary questions, I think they’ve done an admirable job of trying to clean it up. But the problem is, the operation is controversial, the result is controversial. And they’ve created problems for themselves.
