More than 20 years ago, under the leadership of President George H. W. Bush, the Points of Light movement began with a core mission to advance the powerful American ideal of voluntary action. Since then, the service movement has grown through the leadership of each president.
Throughout his life President Bush has called individuals, like you and me, into service with the conviction that, “We can find meaning and reward by serving some higher purpose than ourselves, a shining purpose, the illumination of a thousand points of light…We all have something to give.” Given the needs facing our nation today, the call to be a “point of light” is a powerful and relevant message that extends beyond the divides of politics, economics, race or faith.
