Obama, Hu Pledge “Candid” Conversations


POTUS calls for a “spirit of cooperation” and “friendly competition” between U.S., China during Wednesday presser with Hu.


“Cooperation between our countries is good” for U.S., China and the world.

Touts China’s support in Sudan’s referendum, Korean peninsula.

What’s needed in the future is a “spirit of cooperation that is always friendly competition.”

“The United States and China have a responsibility to combat climate change” by building on work from Copenhagen.

“We welcome China’s increasingly flexibility” on currency… but there needs to be additional “adjustment” in value.

Reiterates America’s commitment to human rights in China and the “dignity of every human being.”

Presidents had a conversation in a “candid” and “pragmatic” environment, came to agreement on “important” issues.

U.S. and China should “respect each other’s sovereignty… and development interests.”

Hu, Obama discussed “disagreements” in “economic and trade areas.”
