Rep. Van Hollen’s office knocks GOPers for blocking bennies extension, holding leadership presser on day of originally scheduled White House meet.
We know what Mitch McConnell did last night (attend a Washington DC dinner), but what exactly was the scheduling conflict that kept John Boehner and the rest of the GOP leadership from meeting with the President of the United States to discuss creating jobs and growing the economy? We do know that there were two things on their plate in the afternoon : 1. Obstructing an extension of unemployment benefits despite the fact that unemployment benefits prevented record poverty rate in 2009; and 2. Holding a press conference with their new leadership team to fawn all over each other. Neither item would create one job, in fact opposing UI benefits will hurt middle class families. It’ll be interesting to hear, from the GOP leadership, just what exactly they were so busy with last night, that they couldn’t possibly adjust their schedules to meet with the President of the United States to discuss how to tackle the difficult challenges facing this country.
