More Than 30,000 9/11 Responders, Survivors Nationwide Are Reported Sick -- Waiting On Legislation To Deliver Care
Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand, Charles E. Schumer and Frank Lautenberg, U.S. Representatives Carolyn Maloney, Jerrold Nadler and Peter King, and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will stand with labor leaders, and 9/11 survivors and first responders from across the country to call on the U.S. Senate to pass the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act TODAY, Tuesday, November 16 at 2:30 PM in Washington, DC.
More than 30,000 9/11 responders and survivors from across the country are documented sick from exposure to Ground Zero toxins, waiting for Congress to pass this legislation to deliver the care they need.
The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act would provide monitoring and treatment for WTC responders and local community members, as well as monitoring and treatment for responders who traveled from all across the country to help in the clean-up effort following 9/11. The bill would also invest in research into new conditions of the diseases many first responders and community members suffer from as a result of exposure to the toxic fumes of Ground Zero.
The New York and New Jersey leaders will join with John Feal of the FealGood Foundation, the National Fraternal Order of Police, the New York State AFL-CIO, the New York City Central Labor Council, the Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York, the Uniformed Fire Officers Association and the New York City Police Benevolent Association.
