Halperin’s Take: GOP Faces Wanted

On “Morning Joe,” Mark Halperin talks about the Republican need for specific human leaders to give Tuesday’s results meaning.

Will it be on the Hill or the hustings?

Transcript:

Scarborough: “Mark Halperin, it’s going to be very ugly I predict at times for John Boehner dealing with Tea Party members who owe no loyalty to him or the Republican establishment.”

Halperin: “Well look, people want to be led by people. They don’t want to be led by parties or even ideas and so we’re going to have a period where John Boehner and Mitch McConnell and others are going to be the face of the party, Haley Barbour, other newly elected governors. The question I think is, how quickly do people like Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich and other potential presidential candidates, how quickly do they fill the vacuum and come in and become the face of the party. Because President Obama, despite whatever happens tonight, is still going to have the biggest platform. Republicans need faces, human faces, to stand up and say here’s what we stand for.”
