On “Countdown,” Gov. says he had several discussions with “people very close to President Clinton,” insists “all three of us will be on the ballot.”
Plus: He tells Fox he had a conversation with “somebody at the White House,” won’t name names but says it was not Axelrod or Plouffe.
And/But: Crist campaign releases statement, calls Politico story “accurate.”
“I don’t think that he will — I think that all three of us will be on the ballot.”
Question from the Meek campaign: How would you know that there had been conversations about Mr. Meek dropping out?
Crist: “Because I had numerous phone calls with people very close to President Clinton.”
Crist campaign spokesman Danny Kanner issued the following statement in response to press inquiries regarding this evening’s POLITICO story on the Florida Senate race:
“While this story is accurate, the Governor’s focus is on uniting common-sense Democrats, independents, and Republicans behind his campaign because he is the one candidate who can defeat Tea Party extremist Marco Rubio and deliver bipartisan results for Florida in Washington.”
