Caprio Backpedals, Blames “Back Room” Politics

Rhode Island gov. candidate says “shove it” comment was reaction to “back room Washington politics at its worst.”

I have the highest level of respect and admiration for our president — Obama — he has a tough job and he’s going about it as best he can.

However this was not about addressing the president of the United States in his official role. This was about politics. This was about back room Washington politics at its worst. I was just looking for the courtesy of the White House letting me know what they were going to do with the endorsement, not letting some reporter call me on a late Sunday night to say what was going to happen the day before the president was coming in.

When I said shove it to the president what I meant was I want to go up to that State House … and I don’t care who’s sitting on the other side of the desk … if they’re not looking out for the best interests of Rhode Island, I’m gonna go and I’m going to tell them shove it … I’m not going to back down to anybody.
