CBS: “At first glance the numbers looked hopeful — a possible turnaround in the housing market . After a bad summer, sales of previously owned homes shot up 10% in September.”

ABC: Diane Sawyer reports from California “where some of the nation’s hard fought elections will be decided eight days from now.”

Political summaries:

NBC: Chuck Todd breaks down the seats in play – with 100 seats dubbed very competitive. 49 of the competitive races are in districts that supported McCain in 2008. “If they just win McCain seats, they already have the majority.”

CBS: Report by Nancy Cordes specifically highlights challenges faced by Rodriguez in Texas, Larsen in Washington and Keating in Massachusetts.

ABC: Tapper reports from Rhode Island, says Obama’s “all about rallying the base” and addresses comments on Caprio. Sawyer airs clips of interview with Meg Whitman, in which the gov. candidate predicts two million new private sector jobs by 2015, responds to criticisms of using more than $141 million of her own money, and talks about her mother’s lessons about the cost of making mistakes.
