Gov. candidates Brady and Quinn take up finances, property taxes and ethics in debate Wednesday night.
On budget:
Brady: "We can't afford these secret programs anymore and excessive spending."
Brady: Says they need a governor who supports the people of Illinois and not the "insiders."
Quinn: "We should make sure" taxpayer money "... is spent in a proper way."
On abortion, death penalty:
Brady: "Governor's lead, they don't punt."
On transparency/ What did you do with the 13% discretionary funding:
Quinn: "We have transparency and openness like never before in Illinois." (Doesn't answer question on discretionary funding).
Brady: Says they should bring an auditor in to get a "clear picture" of Illinois' finances.
Brady: "My government will be transparent to the people of Illinois."
Cuts:
Quinn: "I fought for property tax payers all my life."
Quinn: "We have to fight and lower property taxes."
Quinn: "He wants to raise your property taxes and I think that's a bum idea."
Jobs/conflict of interest:
Quinn: Says they cannot create jobs in Illinois if the governor has a conflict of interest -- says Brady does, he does not.
Quinn: "I support the minimum wage." Says he wants to/helped raise the minimum wage.
Quinn: Hits Brady for not showing up to events/forums in African American communities.
Brady: "Showing up ... means standing in support of Walmarts."
Brady: "You went with the special interests once again, Governor."
Brady: Calls the governor "awol" on education.
On immigration:
Quinn: "A governor ... shout stand up and speak out ..." on immigration reform.
Ethics:
Quinn: Proposes community ethics commission.
Brady: Returns to pension issue, says "governor, math doesn't lie."
Taxes:
Brady: "I've made it ... clear ... no new taxes."
Brady: "He's a career, insider politician."
