Giannoulias v. Kirk

Illinois Senate candidates take up corruption, Citizens United and more in debate Tuesday night.

On Obama:

Giannoulias: On spending bill "I would have voted against it."

Giannoulias: Says Obama/Dems should focus more on clean energy/environment, providing credit for small businesses

On mid-course correction:

Giannoulias: "Learning from mistakes in the past." Says they should have had a "laser-like focus" on jobs.

Giannoulias: "I've had one of the most independent voting records."

On Tea Party:

Kirk: "We should spend less, borrow less and tax less."

(Doesn't answer question on opinion of the movement).

DREAM Act/Immigration:

Giannoulias: "I am in favor of the DREAM Act."

Giannoulias hits Kirk for not reading the DREAM Act.

Kirk: "We have to restore the trust ... that trust is completely broken."

Kirk: Says he cares about Mexico because he went to school there.

Kirk: "We don't want that kind of violence spreading across" to our side.

Kirk: "This is not the time to do this."

Voter integrity program:

Kirk: "It's not" targeted at African American communities.

Kirk: "We have a corruption problem."

Giannoulias: "There's never been an accusation of fraud" on the south and west side of Chicago.

Giannoulias: "You're trying to suppress the African American vote."

On DADT/gay rights:

Giannoulias: "I am for the immediate repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.'"

Giannoulias: "It makes us a less secure nation."

Kirk: "I'm totally confused as to where the administration is" on DADT.

Giannoulias: "I am in favor of full marriage equality."

Kirk: "I oppose gay marriage ... support civil unions." Says the federal government is already taking over too much.

Citizens United

Giannoulias: "Don't let foreign corporations decide who your next Senators are."

Kirk: "The key issue is disclosure."

Kirk: "We should do it within 24 hours on the Internet."

Giannoulias: "I would be in favor of a Constitutional amendment."
