“Recapturing that Spirit” in Ohio

POTUS/FLOTUS double team at DNC rally Sunday night Columbus -- crowd estimate of over 30,000 (and boffo visuals).

Pool Report #5

POTUS and FLOTUS just finished a fundraiser for Gov. Strickland and the Ohio Democratic Party. His speech was pretty much what you’ve been hearing. The car. The ditch. The Slurpee. The gearshift.

Our understanding is that there will be a transcript.

Somewhat noteworthy was the Lucy-and-Desi banter between the two of them at the beginning of what was their first campaign appearance together since 2008.

FLOTUS introduced POTUS as “the love of my life, though he doesn’t always think it. And more importantly, the President of the United States.”

He later demurred that: “It is not true that more importantly I am the President of the United States. More importantly, I am Michelle Obama’s husband, and Malia and Sasha’s father, and Michelle has put up with me through thick and thin, and I’m grateful for her each and every day.”

“So it’s fun having her along on this road trip,” he added. “You know, usually I am all by myself, and I listen to my iPod. We had a wonderful conversation on the way here (comic pause) and she’s telling me what I should do. It’s true.”

The audienced laughed.

“You think I’m joking. I’m not. I have witnesses.”

And then he laughed.

The fundraiser was held in a posh suburb east of Cleveland that was described to your pool at various points as either Hunting Valley or Chagrin Falls. It was in a tent on the spacious lawn of home of David and Carole Carr. He owns Brennan Industries, a firm that distributes hydraulic fittings and adapters for heavy equipment.

The Strickland campaign informs us that 350 people attended and that tickets cost $750, $1,500 and $5,000.
