Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in politics for Tuesday, June 30.
1. Watch what the White House does to stir up public support on health care. The administration still has a lot of work to do to get this bill through and getting the American people to push their representatives in the House and Senate to take dramatic action on health care this year. Watch for many more town halls, press conferences and other events led by the president or other surrogates aimed at getting Americans — and members of Congress — energized about a health care bill.
2. Watch to see how Republicans handle whatever the White House and Democrats say and do on health care reform. Watch to see if they focus on undermining Democrats’ plans or instead can rally around an alternative plan that’s more in line with GOP objectives.
3. Watch the outside health care-related groups and how their posture is shaping up toward what’s developing in Washington. Watch insurance companies, drug companies and others for details on whether they’ll lobby for or against the dominant momentum on the Hill.
