Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in politics for Thursday, June 18.
1. Watch the reaction to the continuing unrest in Iran. President Obama has started to get a little more criticism that whether he’s not being outspoken enough on behalf freedom and reform there. Watch to see if the White House changes its rhetoric even slightly, shifting to a less equivocating position today and in the days to come.
2. Watch for new developments on the progress of health care reform. There are some signs that the Democrats are not holding together on the Hill. Watch to see if there are clues as to whether this is just the normal back-and-forth of the legislative process or if the White House needs to figure out a way to keep the process on track, at least among Democrats in the House and Senate.
3. Watch the president and vice president at the same Democratic Party fundraiser tonight. Both men will be speaking at the Washington event, which is expected to rake in $3 million for the party’s House and Senate campaign committees. Watch to see how both of them talk about politics, their agenda and each other.
