Mark Halperin’s Three Things

Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in presidential politics today, April 22, 2009:

1.  Follow the continuing controversy over interrogation techniques and what should be done about Bush-era policies.  Watch to see how the White House handles what was yesterday a little bit of a sticky situation for them: determining who, if anybody, should be prosecuted for their role in the development and implementation of these policies.

2.  Watch to see what’s going on with the banking and financial systems. The administration continues to try to come up with policies in advance of the release of the stress tests that try to address the problem.  Watch to see what happens on that front today particularly on Capitol Hill where a lot of scrutiny is coming towards the administration’s plans.

3.  Watch as the president goes to Iowa today, back where his campaign got a real lift when he won the Democratic caucuses in January 2008.  Watch to see the emotion and rhetoric from a president who’s very grateful to the people of the Hawkeye State.
