Mark Halperin’s Three Things

Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in presidential politics today, April 21, 2009:

1.  Watch to see how much the Obama administration engages Vice President Cheney on the latest flap over interrogation techniques. Cheney recently called it “a little bit disturbing” that the administration didn’t release the CIA memos that reveal “the success of the effort.”   This exchange could blow up if the administration chooses to engage Cheney directly.  Watch to see what happens.

2.  Watch to see Secretary Geithner talking more about how to fix the financial system.  He appears before the Congressional Oversight Panel today to testify on how the bailout money is being spent. Watch his performance and what kind of reaction he gets from the pundits and from Capitol Hill.

3.  Finally, there is a big event at the White House today on national service.  Obama will sign the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, and it is expected to be emotional.   Watch to see just how  emotional it becomes and how that plays out throughout the day.
